Week 4

Hi everyone, I hope you have had a great week. I would rank my week a 4. Monday was crazy for the students as they had had a mini vacation with all of the snow but it was so nice to get back to a regular schedule and begin working on everything we need to do to successfully complete the semester. Every day besides Monday went smoothly. I love being back in the first-grade classroom though fortunately I still see my kindergarteners in the hallway.  Classroom Questions for the week.  What would be the first things you would put on your classroom wall? How would you arrange your classroom tables? How will you communicate with parents? Will you have a class pet in the classroom? How is the best way to utilize your assistant? (My CE has told me having the CE monitor students while teaching is great.) What are some ways to teach students measuring skills? What would you do if a student was kicking and screaming on the floor? On Monday, I started back with my f...

Student Teaching Week 3

Hello everyone, I hope you all have been having a good week. It is truly amazing how a winter storm can mess the whole week up. My school was out of course for Martin Luther King day so we came back on Tuesday. This day was the only day we saw each other.  I would rate the week a 4. It has been a good week to get ahead in lesson plans and complete work for our portfolio even though I wish I could have spent some time with my Kindergarten children. This was my last week in the classroom before I go to first grade.  Some questions I have for the week are as follows. Questions for the week. How do you handle a student who refuses to listen to you? How do you handle a student who wants to help you with classroom jobs, but you do not need the help? Instead, you want them to listen and to learn.  How do you handle a student who refuses to go inside the classroom? How do you handle quiet transitions from literacy station to literacy station? How do you handle a studen...

Student Teaching Week 2

I would rate my week about a 3.  Questions to end my week. 1. How can I better differentiate when I have a student who already knows the material? 2. How can I challenge myself to be a better listener to my students? 3. What other kinds of manipulatives can I use which will increase student engagement and further student learning experience? 4. How can I help a student understand a math concept whenever she cannot even understand English very well? 5. How can I focus students on me and what I am telling them? 6. Some students do not listen to directions. What can I do to fix this? 7. What can I do to keep students in their seat? I cannot believe we have already finished another successful week in the student teaching semester. I hope all of you are doing good and are having success in your classrooms. Next week is my last week in the Kindergarten classroom. After this, I will be back to my CE's classroom full of eager first graders. I am excited to be b...

Beginning Student Teaching Week 1

I would rate my experience for this week as a 3. The classroom full of kindergartners were not excited to get back to work after the long refreshing holiday. Many students had forgotten the classroom rules such as sit in your seat unless you have to go to the bathroom, raise your hand when you must ask a question, and when you need a pencil go take your pencil to the pencil box and change it for a sharpened pencil. I cannot say it was a terrible week though because of the writing contest. All week I have been working with the students on their writing. We had a writing contest on Friday of who could write the neatest work on the line. I gave students a piece of paper with two sentences. They had to copy the exact sentence underneath the sentence I had written. Students had to make sure their words were on the line. The capital letters must reach from the top line to the bottom line, the sentence must have a period at the end, the words must be spelled correctly, and the lowercase le...
