Week 8

Hello everyone, I hope everyone is doing good this week. I enjoyed collaborating with all of you during our edTPA conference today. I appreciate all the feedback and support during this exciting yet stressful time in our student teaching. I would rate my week about a 2. I do not feel as though I was able to get all I wanted to get accomplished this week. I feel as though I am very behind in edTPA. I look forward to the weekend when I can hopefully get most of the work done.  Questions: 1. How do you respond when you have given a student several seconds to give you an answer? How long do you think the wait time should be? 2. How do you keep your AIG learners engaged? 3. What do your students do in the morning before lessons begin? 4. What do you put on your wall which teaches cultural diversity? 5. What are some apps or websites your school uses? 6. How do you engage your EC student? 7. What is your lockdown procedure? Observe: Being prepared and having ...

Week 7

Hello everyone. I hope you have had a good Valentine’s week. My week has been good but a little different in comparison with other weeks. My CE has been out now for several days, so I have been getting a variety of substitutes. My TA has been awesome though in encouraging me and showing me various things, he does. For example, he oversees our gumball math and sight word recognition. I would rate my experience about a 4. This week Forrest Hunt had several events for reading across America plus Valentine’s Day. Though the children were a little chaotic, I enjoyed seeing their enthusiasm. Questions: Tell me what you feel the number one job of the teacher is? What are the rules for pencils in your classroom? Are your students allowed to share their supplies? What kinds of charts are you using for literacy? What kind of class jobs do your students have? When does your teacher grade papers to put in the grade book? How are you recording grades? Observe: The accomplishmen...

Week 6

Hello Everyone,  This week was a very strange week. The TA and my CE were out of the room quite a lot this week plus I was working on my edTPA lessons. My lesson went much longer than 30 minutes however since we did not have a tight schedule until Thursday due to IME groups. I would give my week a 4 simply because I am glad to have edTPA done except for my reteach math lesson. Questions for the Week? What are some good activities to do for the Olympics? What are some good games to do for 100th-day celebration? What are some good classroom management strategies you use? What do you think about the idea of having students sit quietly or having them talk about the lesson? What do you do in the classroom to celebrate Valentine’s Day? How do you differentiate between an EC student? How do you differentiate between an ESL student? Observe: I was happy to complete my edTPA this week. Though some of my video footage was bad due to the telephone ringing and a student...

Week 5

Hello everyone. I hope you have all had a great week. I would rate my week a 3. My biggest difficulty this week was finding the balance of engaging students without having behavior problems: students interrupting each other, blurting something out without raising their hand, or not following my directions. Questions to End My Week What is a good theme board for “Read Across America?” What are some good ways to stay organized as a teacher? Do you think a birthday hat is a great way to build up student encouragement? Do students work better in the small group, whole group, or individual attention? How are some ways you would handle a small group to keep them quiet, but engaged? What are some ways you would differentiate with all students? What are some good science activities you do for first grade in your classrooms? Observe: On Monday, I put up labels for different pieces of furniture and objects students use frequently. It was so funny to see their reaction o...
