Welcome to Week 3

Week 3 has been very beneficial to me in learning about generalizations and conceptual lens. These are two terms I have never heard of before. Conceptual lens ties two concepts together which forms a generalization. I want my unit to focus on the American Revolutionary war, therefore, a few of my concepts I selected are War versus Peace and Liberty versus Tyranny. "How can rebellion bring about liberty" might be a generalization I would use. I interviewed one of my teachers for the wisdom and experience project. She is one of the few teachers who tries to incorporate social studies into her material. She did explain how difficult it was to incorporate social studies in the class since there is no allotted time for it. The only time she can make for the subject is if she uses social studies facts in literacy lessons. According to the NCTCS teachers need to know the content they teach. To be a good teacher, I will need to know my content extremely well to incorpor...

Hello Everyone! Welcome to Week Two!

The differentiation and social media discussion on the google community was a very impactful discussion for me. Thank you to Savanna and Collen for putting an excellent website in your discussion. For the first time, I got to use tagul.com to create a word cloud. The word cloud is a useful social media which can portray certain words to describe an item in a fun, interesting way. As part of the North Carolina Standards, word cloud presentations could fall under standard four “Teachers Facilitate Learning for their Students.” Facilitate basically means teachers break down information for their students to understand. I could use impactful words on a word cloud describing the concept I would be teaching that day.  Outside learning from this class, I viewed a PowerPoint presentation from Dr. Wesson yesterday. She was discussing how different cultures act in class. For one thing, Hispanics ...

First week of Social Studies

I am looking forward to a busy and successful school year. I cannot believe I only have one more year to go before I began student teaching. I know this year will fly by, but I feel that I still have much to learn before I enter the classroom. This semester will have new challenges as well as benefits. For example, I never have used a blog or google community and I have only used tweet one time. I look forward to using new technology and experiencing new ways of communicating with people. Technology is expanding so rapidly by the time I have a class of my own there will probably be even more useful devices. According to NCTCS, teachers must be the leader in there classrooms. As future teachers it is up to us to know the technology and use it for the benefit of our students. Speaking of technology, I want to thank Dr. Parker for providing many helpful videos for the first week of class. Without them, I would have been lost on what to do.   Another part of this week I enjoyed was t...
