Welcome to Week 11 I hope everyone has had a great weekend. I am working on lesson plans for Social Studies and I am finding some great resources. I would encourage you to check out Mr. Betts Class on Youtube. The link is posted below. Mr. Bett has turned some great songs into paradodys by changing the lyrics. He sings about all kinds of history events from the lost colony of Roanoke, Jamestown, to the Leaders of World War 2. His songs would be a great way to conclude the lesson or begin the lesson to grab students interest. https://www.youtube.com/user/MrBettsClass In addressing what I have been doing outside of social studies, I had a wonderful experience in the classroom today. I taught a literacy lesson on a book about Sojourner Truth. She was a slave in the 1800s who was eventually freed. Her life was spent speaking against slavery and speaking for women's rights. I dressed up in a long dress pretending to be a good friend of Sojourner Truth. The students really enjoye...

Welcome to Week 10

Hello, everyone. I hope all of you had a wonderful spring vacation. For my social studies experience this week, I thoroughly enjoyed the Children's Literature project. I selected a book concerning the creation of the US Constitution. The book connects with grade level five because it introduces an important document which has shaped the US History.  One of my goals this summer is to create a website which would list all the books I own. I would give a description of the book along with how I could use the book in my classroom. I am glad for the Children's Literature project because it has given me a guideline of how to create the book website.   Outside of the social studies class, my clinical educator showed me a unique technology app which I had never heard of before. The name of the app is called pic collage. With this app, students can create a poster on their apple device filled with pictures and phrases in relation to what they have learned from the lesson. The...

Welcome to Week 9

For social studies this week, I had a valuable experience with the App Evaluation. PlayKids Stories, the app Chris and I chose, provides a fun experience for students. Students not only have access to a wide variety of Ebooks, but they can interact with different books by playing games. There is one book about planets where students can put clothes on the different planets. By having an interactive experience with science, students can remember the material and the experience when learning about information in class. Also, students will develop better reading skills. With a fun app like this, who could not learn how to love reading. For information learned outside of class, I have been studying about Hispanic culture in the classroom. As a teacher, I need to establish respect for cultural diversity by choosing a wide variety of books about different cultural groups.  I found a variety of Spanish books I can use in my classroom. The legend of the Poinsettia would be a good His...

Welcome to Week 8

Hello Everyone, I hope you all are doing good. As a part of what we learned in Social Studies, the TPack and SAMR were the most impactful learning experiences for me. The TPack is combining what we have learned about Technology, Pedagogy, and Content. By incorporating all three learning devices into our classroom we will create an impactful meaningful lesson plan, the TPC. I found a creative word cloud which lists several ideas from each segment. - http://ncltitpack.ncdpi.wikispaces.net/UnPACK+your+Discipline+TPACK The SAMR incorporates the use of technology at a higher level as we as teachers strive to reach the final segment Redirection. Substitution starts at the top right-hand side. By rotating clockwise the wheel comes to augmentation, modification, and finally redirection. Each section has different apps associated with each one with a list of words that go with the instruction. The New Blooms Taxonomy also connects with each part of the SAMR Model starting with remember...
