Hello Everyone! Welcome to Week Two!

The differentiation and social media discussion on the google community was a very impactful discussion for me. Thank you to Savanna and Collen for putting an excellent website in your discussion. For the first time, I got to use tagul.com to create a word cloud. The word cloud is a useful social media which can portray certain words to describe an item in a fun, interesting way. I will keep word cloud in mind for future projects as a student and as a teacher. As part of the North Carolina Standards, word cloud presentations could fall under standard four “Teachers Facilitate Learning for their Students.” Facilitate basically means teachers break down information for their students to understand. I could use impactful words on a word cloud describing the concept I would be teaching that day.

Outside learning from this class, I viewed a PowerPoint presentation from Dr. Wesson yesterday. She was discussing how different cultures act in class. For one thing, Hispanics believe in their culture that to avoid eye-contact is a sign of respect. I was always taught the exact opposite. Eye contact is respectful whereas avoiding eye contact is disrespectful. Dr. Wesson's presentation was a real eye-opener concerning culture behaviors. I can apply culture differences to differentiation as well. Students who are from different cultures will have different ways of learning. As a teacher, I will need to communicate to my classroom that they need to respect and encourage culture diversity.

  1. Kelly,
I really found your information regarding how different cultures might learn differently then we are taught in the United States interesting. I was also raised that eye contact was a sign of respect and engagement in the conversation. I will definitely need to be more aware of how different cultures disseminate information and process that information. As future educators we will need to be aware of these differences and find ways to bridge the gap so that all students can learn.

  2. Kelly,

Make sure the connection you your future classroom is strong so I can visualize how the information changed your teaching practice for the better.
