Welcome to Week 8
Hello Everyone,
I hope you all are doing good.
As a part of what we learned in Social Studies, the TPack and SAMR were the most impactful learning experiences for me. The TPack is combining what we have learned about Technology, Pedagogy, and Content. By incorporating all three learning devices into our classroom we will create an impactful meaningful lesson plan, the TPC. I found a creative word cloud which lists several ideas from each segment.

The SAMR incorporates the use of technology at a higher level as we as teachers strive to reach the final segment Redirection. Substitution starts at the top right-hand side. By rotating clockwise the wheel comes to augmentation, modification, and finally redirection. Each section has different apps associated with each one with a list of words that go with the instruction. The New Blooms Taxonomy also connects with each part of the SAMR Model starting with remembering and understanding to creating.

As for what I learned outside of the social studies week, Dr. Wesson shared a video in my 306 class which discussed comprehension and vocabulary. After the teacher had read a story, she would go over a word which had confused students. After connecting the word with a word students were already familiar with, students would then give examples of how to use the word in a sentence. The vocabulary usage was done in one whole group with students giving examples. When a student memorizes a vocabulary definition for a multiple choice test, they are probably not going to remember it in the future. However, if students collaborate with each other in making up sentences which have the proper content, the vocabulary words will be remembered.
As in application to the NCTCS, teachers facilitate learning in using TPACK, SAMR and vocabulary usage. "Teachers integrate and utilize technology in their instruction" by using ideas such as TPACK and SAMR. Technology is an important factor for both acronyms in regards to student learning. Students learn in a digital age and as Dr. Parker says in one of his videos we cannot allow students to regress back into time whenever they come in our classroom. We want them to move forward into the technology world. Teachers " teach the importance of cooperation and collaboration" by effectively having the whole class learn the meaning of the word at the same time. Students learn from their peers as well as their teacher when doing this activity.
How am I going to apply this information to my classroom? As a teacher, I should always be on the lookout for new technology and apps to integrate into my content area. For student assessment and instruction, I will incorporate the proper pedagogy for each classroom such as group work and differentiation. With the SAMR, I will expand how students incorporate technology into their classroom. I will always try to have a goal of using redirection in my lesson plans. As for vocabulary usage, I will encourage group vocabulary in the classroom so students can collaborate with their peers in learning new words.
Have a great week in your education.
It is almost time for spring break. Hurray!

Kelly, I really like both of the models you posted of TPACK and SAMR. They are super helpful because they provide ideas of how to do each segment. Also, the SAMR being connected to the New Bloom's taxonomy is another unique way to view SAMR and it is very beneficial! Incorporation of technology is key inner future classrooms but it's even more important to make sure the technology is being used to create new and redefining experiences.
ReplyDeleteKelly,
ReplyDeleteI also used the same Infographic for my TPACK. I found it to be descriptive and informative. Your second model for SAMR is a very detailed. You had mentioned that these tools helped with integration of technology. It's really important to integrate technology into your lessons. It's a helpful tool for some students. The majority of students in school today are tech savvy. In my tweet this week I included a video on a flipped high school. Surprisingly some of the students in this school did not have access to a electronic device like a computer or iPad. The school allowed them access to their computers after school. This helped students to participate in the new flipped program. The end result was higher grades.
I am glad to see that TPACK and SAMR were beneficial for you as you look to integrate technology into your future classroom. Go Kelly!
